  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats for creamy, chewy texture
  • 1 cup water or milk of choice use milk for extra creaminess
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon the star spice for warmth
  • a pinch salt to enhance flavors
  • 1/4 cup raisins naturally sweet and chewy
  • 1-2 teaspoons brown sugar or honey optional for extra sweetness
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans for crunch
  • 1/2 cup fresh fruit slices (banana or apple) adds freshness
  • a splash vanilla extract optional for rounding flavors

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a small saucepan, combine the rolled oats, water or milk, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir to blend the ingredients.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the oats are creamy and have absorbed most of the liquid.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the raisins and optional sweetener.
  • Ladle the oatmeal into a bowl and top with your choice of fresh fruit slices and chopped nuts.

Notes

If storing leftovers, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze in portion-sized containers for up to 2 months. Reheat with a splash of liquid to restore creaminess. Experiment with various toppings and options to keep the recipe exciting!
