  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's softened to room temperature.
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar Regular granulated sugar or brown sugar for a deeper flavor.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Pure vanilla extract for richer taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a larger bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).
  • Gradually blend in the dry ingredients, mixing just until incorporated.

Baking

  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden.
  • Cool on wire racks before decorating (optional).

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to one week. For longer storage, freeze individually wrapped cookies for up to 3 months.
