Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour your cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  • Mix in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, ensuring each ingredient is well incorporated.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  • Stir in the purple food coloring until you achieve the desired hue and gently fold in the white vinegar.

Baking

  • Divide the batter equally between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
