  • 1 cup water Can be substituted with almond milk for a vegan option.
  • 1 cup brown sugar For sweetness and moisture; can use granulated sugar as a substitute.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Use a high-quality extract for better flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer the yellow cake mix evenly.
  • Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the cake mix.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the melted butter, water, brown sugar, and vanilla extract; pour this mixture over the cake mix and pecans.
  • Do not stir; just let it sit.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For serving, pair with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days or freeze for later enjoyment. Reheat slices in the microwave or warm the whole cake in the oven.
