  • 1 large egg Beat well to incorporate air for fluffiness.
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice Fresh squeezed is preferred over bottled.
  • 1 Zest of 1 orange Enhances the orange flavor.

For Frying and Garnishing

  • Powdered sugar for dusting Adds sweetness and a beautiful presentation.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk the milk, egg, fresh orange juice, and zest until fully incorporated.
  • Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just mixed.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
  • Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Remove the fritters and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a side of whipped cream or a citrus glaze for extra flavor. Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
