Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour You can substitute with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons yogurt Plant-based yogurt can be used for a dairy-free version.
  • 3/4 cup warm water Ensure water is warm but not too hot.
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter For brushing on cooked naan.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Optional for added flavor.
  • Fresh cilantro For garnish, optional.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the yogurt and warm water until well combined.
  • Gradually stir the wet mixture into the flour mixture until a dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  • Cover the dough with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Cooking

  • After rising, punch down the dough and divide it into 6-8 equal portions.
  • Roll each portion into a flat circle, about 1/4-inch thick.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and cook each naan for 1-2 minutes on each side until browned.
  • Brush each naan with melted butter and sprinkle with minced garlic and cilantro if using.

Notes

Keep naan warm in a towel for serving. Best served fresh from the skillet.
