  • 1 pound crab meat Lump crab meat preferred for its sweetness and texture.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Panko breadcrumbs can be used for added crunch.
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise Greek yogurt can be used for a lighter version.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, gently combine the crab meat, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, egg, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Carefully form the mixture into patties, about 1 to 2 inches thick.
  • In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat until shimmering.

Cooking

  • Carefully place the crab cakes in the hot oil. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the crab cakes from the skillet and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

Notes

For variations, add Espelette pepper for a spicy version or replace the egg with a flax egg for a vegan version. Serve with tartar sauce, fresh greens, or a squeeze of lemon for enhanced flavor.
