  • 1 cup long-grain rice Use your preferred type of long-grain rice for best results.
  • 2 cups chicken broth Substitute with vegetable broth for a vegetarian version.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Ghee can be used for a deeper flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Adds complexity to the flavor.
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped The onion should be browned and sweet for the best flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Be careful not to overcook the garlic.
  • to taste salt Adjust according to broth saltiness.
  • to taste pepper Personalize the seasoning to your preference.
  • to garnish fresh parsley, chopped Adds freshness and color.

Preparation

  • Gather all the necessary ingredients before you begin.
  • Heat the butter and olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat until melted.
  • Add the finely chopped onions and sauté for 8–10 minutes until they become soft and golden brown.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the long-grain rice to the pan and toast for about 1–2 minutes, stirring to coat each grain.
  • Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and add salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil.
  • Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and let the rice simmer for 18–20 minutes.
  • After simmering, remove from heat and let sit for an additional 5 minutes without lifting the lid.
  • Fluff the rice gently with a fork and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Store leftover rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3–4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. For reheating, add a splash of water or broth.
