Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour You can substitute it with whole wheat flour for a denser texture.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Can use coconut oil or a plant-based butter for dairy-free.
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk Regular, almond, or oat milk can be used.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon yeast Make sure it's fresh for the best rise.

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom.

Preparation

  • Combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl to ensure even distribution.
  • Add the melted butter and milk mixture to the flour and mix until a dough forms. Knead it until smooth, about 5-10 minutes.
  • Let the dough rise for about 1 hour in a warm place until it doubles in size.
  • Roll out the dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Spread with butter and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon evenly.
  • Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into rounds about 1 inch thick.
  • Place in greased muffin tins and let rise again for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool slightly before dusting with cinnamon sugar and serving.

Notes

Store cruffins in an airtight container for up to 3 days. They can also be frozen before baking and reheated in an oven for best results.
