  • 9 pieces lasagna noodles Traditional lasagna noodles work best, but whole wheat or gluten-free alternatives can also be used.
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage Can substitue with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce Adjust seasoning to taste.
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese Can be replaced with cottage cheese or vegan ricotta.
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning Add more to taste.
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • to taste fresh basil for garnish Optional.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or sausage until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
  • Stir in the marinara sauce and Italian seasoning, letting it simmer for a few minutes to meld flavors.
  • Layer your cooked noodles, ricotta cheese, and mozzarella in the skillet over the beef mixture.
  • Continue layering until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
  • Cover the skillet and cook on low heat until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve hot.

Notes

To store leftovers, keep them in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days in the fridge. This lasagna can be frozen for up to 3 months.
