Ingredients

For the burger patties

  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs Use gluten-free breadcrumbs for gluten-free option.
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Can substitute with Pecorino Romano or omit for dairy-free.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 large egg For a vegan version, use a flax egg.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For assembly

  • 2 large hamburger buns Toast for better texture.
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce Marinara sauce can be used as an alternative.
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 8 slices turkey pepperoni Regular pepperoni can be used for richer flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, oregano, basil, garlic powder, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Form the mixture into two equal-sized patties, pressing a slight indent in the center of each.

Cooking

  • Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat, adding oil to prevent sticking if desired.
  • Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
  • In the last minute of cooking, place mozzarella cheese on each patty and top with turkey pepperoni. Cover the skillet to help the cheese melt.
  • While the patties cook, lightly toast the hamburger buns.

Assembly

  • Spread pizza sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun, place the cooked patty on top, and add the top bun.
