  • 12 oz fresh mozzarella balls Known as bocconcini; for dairy-free version, use marinated tofu or vegan cheese.
  • 12 leaves fresh basil Key for authentic Caprese flavor; dried basil can be used in a pinch.
  • 12 pieces wooden skewers Soaked in water to prevent burning.

Balsamic Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar Quality vinegar makes a significant difference in flavor.
  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar For sweetness.
  • 1 pinch cracked black pepper For seasoning.
  • 1 pinch sea salt flakes For seasoning.

Preparation

  • Soak 12 wooden skewers in water for about 10-15 minutes.
  • In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine 1 cup of balsamic vinegar. Allow it to simmer and reduce for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
  • Take the soaked skewers and thread them with one cherry tomato, one basil leaf, and one mozzarella ball. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  • Sprinkle sea salt flakes and cracked black pepper over the assembled skewers.
  • Drizzle with homemade balsamic glaze or serve glaze in a small dish for dipping.

Notes

Serve fresh for best taste and texture. Good for outdoor gatherings or special celebrations. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
