Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Provides control over added salt; reduce salt if using salted butter.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed For a cookie that's crispy on the outside and soft inside.
  • 2 large eggs Use room temperature for better texture.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Essential for rich chocolate flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Reserve some to sprinkle on top before baking.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually blend this dry mixture into the creamed mixture.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

Baking

  • Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For the best experience, enjoy these cookies warm or reheated briefly in the microwave. Store them in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
