  • 2 cups beef broth Can substitute with chicken broth, vegetable broth, or water with bouillon cubes.
  • 1 large onion, sliced Caramelizing is key for flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons French onion soup mix
  • to taste Salt and pepper Season generously.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Can substitute with canola oil or butter.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Take care not to burn.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional) For thickening; use arrowroot powder for gluten-free.
  • for garnish Fresh parsley Optional for garnish.

Preparation

  • Sauté the onions in a skillet over medium heat with olive oil until caramelized and golden brown, about 15 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  • In the Crock Pot, combine beef tips, sautéed onions, beef broth, French onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Stir well, cover, and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours until beef is tender.
  • For a thicker gravy, combine cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to make a slurry; stir this into the Crock Pot during the last 30 minutes.
  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

This dish pairs well with crusty bread or over rice or noodles. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
