  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup crushed saltine crackers For gluten-free, use gluten-free crackers.

For Topping

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips Dark or milk chocolate can be used for a different flavor.
  • Christmas sprinkles For decoration.
  • Sea salt Optional, for garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) for even cooking.
  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy lifting.

Cooking

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar over medium heat. Stir until smooth and bring to a boil for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Spread the crushed saltine crackers evenly on the prepared baking sheet. Pour the butter-sugar mixture over the crackers.
  • Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the mixture is bubbling. Monitor carefully to avoid burning.
  • Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot mixture. Let sit for 1 minute to melt, then spread evenly.
  • Top with Christmas sprinkles and a pinch of sea salt, if desired.
  • Cool completely in the refrigerator for about an hour, then break into pieces.

Notes

For a creative twist, try adding crushed nuts, candy canes, or coconut flakes as toppings. Store in an airtight container for best freshness.
