  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar You can substitute some with brown sugar for a richer flavor.
  • 1 unit egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

For the Icing

  • 3 to 4 cups confectioners' sugar Adjust according to desired icing thickness.
  • 2 tablespoons milk Adjust for desired icing consistency.
  • Food coloring (optional) Use for coloring the icing.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and white sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  • Gradually blend in the prepared dry ingredients until fully combined.
  • Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place them on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Gently flatten each dough ball with the bottom of a glass and sprinkle with colored sugar if desired.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges turn golden.
  • Remove from the oven and allow cookies to cool on wire racks.

Icing and Decorating

  • In a bowl, mix confectioners' sugar, milk, and food coloring until smooth.
  • Once the cookies are cool, decorate them with the icing as desired.

Notes

For a festive touch, consider adding nutmeg or cinnamon to the dough. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
