  • 1 lb ground beef Can substitute ground turkey or chicken.
  • 12 oz pasta (penne, rotini, or ziti) Feel free to use any pasta with a similar cooking time.
  • 1 tbsp olive oil For sautéing.
  • 1 small onion, diced Adds flavor to the dish.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Enhances aroma and taste.
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes (with juice) Adds moisture and flavor.
  • 2 cups beef broth Use low-sodium for better control of saltiness.
  • 1 cup marinara sauce For added flavor and texture.
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese For that gooey texture.
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese Adds richness to the dish.
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning Herbs for flavor.
  • Salt & pepper to taste Adjust seasoning based on preference.
  • Optional garnish: fresh parsley For presentation.

Preparation

  • Heat the olive oil in a large deep skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until it’s browned, about 6–7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Stir in the diced onion and minced garlic, and cook until they’re soft and fragrant, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Pour in the beef broth, diced tomatoes (with their juice), and marinara sauce. Stir well to combine.
  • Add the dry pasta and Italian seasoning, then season with additional salt and pepper to taste. Stir everything together thoroughly.
  • Leave the skillet uncovered and let it simmer for 12–14 minutes, stirring occasionally until the pasta is tender and has absorbed the flavors.
  • Once the pasta is cooked, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan on top.
  • Cover the skillet with a lid and let it sit for 3–4 minutes to melt the cheese.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm directly from the skillet.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days, or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in a skillet on medium heat, adding a splash of broth or water if needed.
