  • 4 pieces salmon fillets Fresh salmon fillets are ideal; frozen can be used if thawed.
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar Gives the dish its signature flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons honey For sweetness; can substitute with maple syrup or agave nectar for a vegan option.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil, for cooking

Preparation

  • In a bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, honey, soy sauce, and minced garlic.
  • Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish and pour half of the marinade over them; allow marinating for about 15 minutes.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.

Cooking

  • Remove the salmon from the marinade and season with salt and pepper; place skin-side down in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes.
  • Flip the salmon and cook for another 3-4 minutes until cooked through.
  • Pour the remaining marinade into the skillet, simmering it until it thickens slightly, then drizzle over the cooked salmon.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator; can be frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat in a skillet over low heat, adding a splash of water or broth to keep it moist.
