  • 16 ounces spaghetti pasta Can swap with other pasta shapes like penne or fusilli.
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil For sautéing onions.
  • ¾ cup chopped yellow onion Sauté to soften.
  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Add for flavor.
  • 48 ounces marinara sauce Homemade is preferable for freshness.
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Italian seasoning Adds flavor.
  • ½ teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese Divided for sauce and topping.
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese For topping.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté for about 2 minutes until they soften.
  • Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, draining excess grease.
  • Stir in minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Let simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  • Mix ¼ cup of grated Parmesan cheese into the sauce and gently fold in the cooked spaghetti.
  • Pour the spaghetti mixture into a greased baking dish and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Cover with foil and bake for about 30 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Notes

Allow the dish to rest for 10 minutes after baking for cleaner servings. Consider adding fresh basil or parsley for garnish.
