Main Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef (or turkey) Ground turkey is a great substitute for a healthier option.
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth Chicken broth can also work.
  • 2 cups bread, cubed (preferably old bread) Breadcrumbs or leftover rolls can be used.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Can substitute with soy sauce or vinegar and sugar.
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with the chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  • Form the meat mixture into roughly 4-6 oval patties.
  • In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat and sear the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the cubed bread, milk, and egg until well-mixed.
  • In a greased baking dish, spread the soaked bread evenly and layer the browned patties on top.
  • Pour the beef broth evenly over the entire dish.
  • Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes, then remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days in the refrigerator. Can be frozen for 2-3 months.
